Richard Trible is one strange cat
! From beginning to end this CD is filled with
various voice noises in the background . Trible starts out with "All Along The
Watchtower" and ends up with the tune "Muff Dive Girl" . The best thing about
this CD is Trible's great sense of humor , and he can keep you laughing
throughout. This CD is just a pure and natural riot to listen to.
I would like to call this "novelty music" , but it's really not , it's more like
a drunken walk through a moon bounce. There are some pretty much objectionable
tunes here , but what comedy album isn't ? Trible touches on some topics that
are questionable at least . Tribble's humor is fun , but not for those who
don't want to hear sexual innuendos or profanity .
I know that this CD wouldn't have even been made if it weren't for those
elements . Some have said Trible doesn't do the cover songs any justice, I say
Trible is having fun , and I am having a scream listening to it . The ability to
make people laugh is not an easy task , most can't do it , but Trible pulls it
off.
A decade or two ago there was a Canadian band that did stuff along these same
lines , in Canada they (McLean & McLean) were dubbed as having Bathroom humour.
They knew what they were trying not do , as does Richard Trible . Trible's voice
suits what he is trying to pull off here . A polished veteran wouldn't have been
so hilarious . Trible takes some liberties on the songs he covers here "All
Along The Watchtower" , "Closer(Nine Inch Nails)" , he even talks his way
through Brittney Spears "OOPS , I Did it Again" . A laugh a minute!!
( 4 Stars out of 6 - for laugh appeal)

Starting things off with an off-kilter cover of Bob Dylan’s “All Along the
Watchtower”, Richard Trible immediately establishes the fact that he doesn’t
take himself too seriously. He’s 51, used to live with his mother until a few
years ago, and according to him his songs “Sixty Second Man” and “Muff Dive
Girl” show why he’s still single. You have to love the hilarious “Barnyard
Animals” but really on the album what’s not to love? From the funny cover of
NIN’s “Closer” to Britney Spears’ “Oops, I Did It Again” to the Who’s “Pinball
Wizard” with its voice guitar (think Beavis and Butthead) it’s chock full of
bizarreness and just fall-out-of-your-chair hilarity.
Zeitgeist reviews
If you see this man walking down the street towards you, I would strongly
recommend crossing the road, and avoiding any kind of contact (physical or
otherwise).
If I wasn't poor white trash myself, then that would be the accusatory tone I
would set when penning this review. Fortunately, I am equally low rent and found
this to be an absolute delight. Albeit a dirty, nasty delight!
The subtitle is "Richard Trible Plays With Himself", and he seems in no hurry to
deny the 51 year old virgin rumours hurtling his way. A man working in the same
idiom as my beloved Bartles, the obligatory Beefheartian musical nods and
vocals, are offset by some deranged cover versions. Nine Inch Nails’s "Closer"
gets the treatment it, and Trent Reznor, deserve. "All Along The Watchtower" is
treated with contempt and his Britney lovefest has to be heard to be believed.
Amongst the original songs, big props to "Sixty Second Man" and "Muff Dive Gal".
I'm sure the ladies will be queuing up after hearing those ditties. Git some, go
again.

KKSM Music Director Vienna Tutera handed me Richard Trible's album
and we laughed our arses off with his cover of Nine Inch
Nails "Closer".
Richard Trible's cover of Nine Inch Nails' "Closer" still leaves
members of KKSM staring at the stereo speakers in disbelief.
thank you very much for
sending me "Love, Sex & Other Messy Things".
I really enjoyed it!!!!!! GREAT FUN!!
Best Regards,
Gerd

CrossOver review
Schon das Äußere dieser CD verwundert arg. Was soll uns dieses Cover sagen?
If you live in a large city, you have undoubtedly seen, heard and avoided any number of buskers wailing classic rock for spare change. Tribble (sic) is kind of like that, except that he hasn't managed to leave the trailer park for the cities' bright lights.
Still, he has aspirations. He likes that old stuff and performs versions of "All
Along The Watchtower" and an a capella "Pinball Wizard" and even delivers "Oops
I Did It Again" for his younger audience. There are original numbers too, like
the nonsense vocal number "Cacofanatical." Think novelty tunes for the
brain-addled.
If you ever do see him perform on the street, drop some change in that hat, smile and back away slowly.

As a Disc Jockey I have listened to many
recordings by many artists. When this album by Richard Trible came across my
desk the first thing that caught my attention was the cover. I said to myself,
no one on the verge of sanity would place a flasher on the cover of his album.
Then I listened to the tracks and came to the realization that Richard Trible
straddles that thin line between insanity and real genius. I’ll opt for the
latter.
I came to understand that the cover art is a metaphor for the many brilliant
flashes of satirical genius that Mr. Trible has captured, like photographs, in
this collection. Richard Trible’s songs express his insights into the life and
the times in which we live. It is as if he has digested the complexities of life
and then threw them back up in “Nuevo Vernacular” terms that we can comprehend.
His viewpoint, to say the least, is quite refreshing.
If I were to describe Richard in one word it would be “Craftsman.” These songs
are not just cobbled together they are well crafted. Their meanings are both
obvious and obtuse, leaving the listener to draw his own conclusions as they
relate to the context of his own life. Many people will get it, while some will
never even have a clue. I believe that you will
be among the many who will delight in the raw satirical genius of “Love, Sex &
Other Messy Things” by the enigmatic Richard Trible.

I don't know why anyone would want to buy this album. The music is awful and some of the lyrics are awful as well.
